Reds. Notes from the Winemakers:

Artezin.png

Our Zinfandel from Mendocino is a pure varietal expression of red and black fruit, with a hint of black pepper and a concentrated finish. We also look to single vineyards in the Russian River and Dry Creek appellations that showcase the richness and distinction of those places. Ruby red in color this wine has indigo blue and violet hues. There is a concentration of delicious, bright pomegranate and boysenberry aromas followed by mouthwatering blackberry pie crust. Flavors are led by bright raspberry and red cherry cola, all of which are framed by a subtle pepper note. The cheerful fruit is complemented by baking spice, most notably clove and cinnamon, with soft, mouth-watering tannins delivering a round, balanced finish

Produced entirely from grapes we cultivate at our Home Ranch in eastern Santa Ynez Valley, our Estate Grown Merlot is a sumptuous red wine boasting fragrant black cherry and dark plum aromas mingled with appealing vanilla, milk chocolate and light herbal scents. Juicy and succulent on the palate, the wine’s concentrated dark cherry, plum and cassis flavors gain a zesty tea-leaf spice tone in the long, savory finish. Beautifully balanced, with supple tannins, our Merlot is delicious on release with poultry, duck, game and beef dishes, but it handsomely rewards an additional 3-4 years of bottle aging.

This Cabernet Sauvignon comes from select vineyards in California with warm days and cool nights. These vineyards are characterized by a long growing season which helps develop ripe and round fruit flavors. Each vineyard was harvested and fermented separately in upright stainless steel fermenters. Rack and return, which is the process of draining all of the free-run juice off the cap and then returning the free-run juice back over the top of the fermenter, was performed twice daily. This method increases color and tannin extraction and improves the mouthfeel through the integration of oxygen. This wine was aged for 12 months in neutral oak. Flavors of red cherry, anise, and a hint of vanilla, abound in this Cabernet Sauvignon. This wine is well balanced with medium tannins, a smooth mid-palate and a spicy, coffee finish.

Renegade is loaded with enticing aromas of blueberry, blackberry, vanilla, sandalwood and savory tobacco. A rich, juicy texture reveals flavors of black cherry, boysenberry, cedar, cocoa and baking spice. A lingering jammy fruit character is joined by black pepper spiciness on a smooth, rounded finish.

The winemaking vision of Renegade is to craft a rich, boldly flavored wine with structure and finesse. After fermentation, the individual lots were aged for 19 months in a combination of French (55%) and American oak (45%) barrels, including a total of 25 percent new oak.
